Rising Stars: Meet Yunet Solorzano of Downtown Kirkland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yunet Solorzano.

Hi Yunet, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began photographing dogs in 2019, at a time when I didn’t yet understand how deeply this work would shape my life.

Photography entered quietly, almost as a side path, something creative I returned to between the structure and responsibility of a medical career. For several years, I lived in both worlds. By day, I worked in healthcare. In the margins of my life, I kept building a creative practice, unsure if it would ever become more than a passion I protected in small windows of time.

But dogs kept calling me back. Not just as subjects, but as stories.

They were there in every season of my life, through transitions, through burnout, through becoming a parent, through learning what it means to hold both responsibility and tenderness at once. Over time, I realized that what I was truly drawn to wasn’t just photography itself, but the connections it allows us to hold onto. The way an image can preserve a relationship that is quietly shaping us. The way it can make visible the love, trust, and history that so often live between the moments.

Animals were at the center of that discovery.

They are the quiet witnesses to our changing lives, present through new homes, new roles, new versions of ourselves. They do not mark time the way we do, but they carry it in their bodies, their expressions, their devotion. Through photography, I found a way to honor not only them, but the bond itself. The story of a life unfolding alongside another. The ones who stay.

Eventually, I reached a point where I could no longer keep creativity as something secondary. I chose to devote myself fully to this work, to dogs, to storytelling, to preserving the relationships that so often pass too quickly.

Olive & Fable was born from that decision.

Today, my work is less about portraits and more about legacy. About creating artwork that honors chosen family. About slowing time just enough to remember who stood beside us at every chapter.

This is the work I was always moving toward, even before I knew how to name it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, but it has been a meaningful one.

For many years, I lived between two worlds, building a career in healthcare while quietly growing something creative on the side. There were seasons of doubt, burnout, and uncertainty, and moments when choosing stability felt easier than choosing calling.

At the same time, I was learning how to build a small business in a creative field that often values speed and volume. I was trying to create something slower and more intentional. Artwork you could live with, return to, and place on your walls, rather than images that were quickly delivered and forgotten.

Much of the challenge became about helping clients slow down and see the value in something more lasting. I had to accept that while I wish everyone could have a fine art portrait of their best friend at home, this work is not for everyone, and that is part of building something honest and sustainable.

What made it especially complex is that this work is not only technical, it is emotional. Photographing relationships and holding space for love and change requires presence and care, and learning how to protect my own energy while continuing to grow has been an ongoing process.

The challenges have shaped the way I work and the way I see. This is still a journey of growth, in my business and in my passion, and one I feel deeply grateful to continue.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work sits at the intersection of portraiture, storytelling, and fine art.

I specialize in fine art pet and family portraiture, creating carefully crafted images designed to become lasting artwork rather than fleeting photographs. My artistic approach is inspired by classical portraiture and the Old Masters, using intentional lighting, composition, and editing to shape emotion and presence. I focus on creating a small number of finished images that truly capture the essence of a subject, not a large volume of almost perfect ones.

What makes this work especially meaningful is the relationship with each client.

The experience is less like hiring a photographer and more like commissioning an artist. We design the portrait together, from learning each dog’s personality and each family’s story to selecting colors, accessories, and details that complement both the narrative and the home where the artwork will live.

In the studio, every dog becomes part of our pack and every family part of ours. That connection allows the portraits to feel honest, personal, and alive.

I am deeply proud of the final artwork my clients take home.

I work with professional labs and archival materials so each piece is built to last, and every portrait is designed specifically for a client’s space and aesthetic.

What sets my work apart is the collaboration at the heart of every portrait. Fewer images, created with intention and care. An experience rooted in connection. And heirloom artwork meant to live on the walls of a home and within the story of a family for generations.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are many ways to work with and support what we create at Olive & Fable.

Clients can commission a fine art portrait experience by reaching out through our studio, where every session is designed as a collaborative, highly personalized process. From the first conversation to the final artwork on the wall, we work closely with families to create something meaningful and lasting.

I also love collaborating with pet-centric businesses, rescues, and organizations who share a passion for animals and storytelling. Many of our projects grow through partnerships, fundraising initiatives, book projects, and community events that allow art to give back.

And beyond formal collaborations, the simplest support often means the most. Sharing our work, following along, recommending us to a friend, or choosing to preserve your own story through art all help this vision continue to grow.

At the heart of it, Olive & Fable is built on community. Every client, every collaborator, every supporter becomes part of our extended family, and I am deeply grateful for each person who chooses to be part of that story.
