Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasia Sirmans.
Tasia , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up in a small town I always knew and felt like I wanted something bigger, at the age of 13 my mom moved us to Tampa, Florida from Spokane, Washington . Not knowing a thing about big cities I struggled for awhile trial and error learning the ropes of what it is to live a fast paced life . I faced plenty of hardships in Highschool due to my mom facing a series of strokes, I had to step up for my siblings and take care of them while still figuring out how to still be a teenager . Amongst all this there was a barber program that I was attending at Hillsborough High in Tampa , it was my escape.. I didn’t quite know what I was doing or anything at all about barbering but I knew that whenever it was time for that period of the day the world went silent , I could forget about what was happening at home , the trauma I was facing of wondering how long I have with my mom or if she was ever gonna get better . Fast forward my mom continued to digress , I went into the foster care system and kind of lost hope for having my family together again I did finish high school though I’ve always been determined to reach the finish line regardless of what I may have been going through . I ended up getting out of the system and moved back to Spokane with my auntie . I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do but I knew that I had this deep love and passion for barbershops it was a place to unwind relax and not be judged just listened too. A year later I bought my first pair of clippers and started practicing on myself , it felt good that I could make myself look good with my own techniques, I continued to practice and started cutting my cousins, nephews and little brother . February 7,2023 my mom passed 2 months later I decided to enroll myself in barber school , nobody was coming to save me I had to start a career for myself and push hard for something that was gonna keep me going . Fast forward I graduated in 2024 , built my clientele pretty well from cutting in school , doing house calls and word of mouth . 2025 I rented out a suite , and got my LLC by the end of the year, now here I am 2026 been in suite for a year still building my clientele pretty well , learning everyday that I can to improve and continue to elevate in the barber business. Not everyday is easy it has its slow days that can be very discouraging but through the midst of everything I have continued to fight and will continue .
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all , losing my mom has been my greatest struggle
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a licensed barber in the state of Washington , I’m known for my blurry fades , crispy line ups and I also braid and do locs from time to time. I am most proud of how fast I’ve been able to pick myself off the ground and take off with the consistency of my work. What’s sets me apart from others is my grind and hustle to put myself in a better position with little to no support
How do you define success?
I define success by the goals you lay out for yourself to be achieved no matter what you go through or how long it takes you . As long as your pushing forward and take each step necessary to get there
