Meet Michele Knox of Olympia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Knox.

Hi Michele, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been creative since middle school, though I didn’t fully recognize it at the time. one small moment stayed with me; a commercial for an art school that invited viewers to draw a face, mail it in, and receive a grade. I sent in a portrait and received a B+. That simple validation mattered more than I realized then-I kept that pamphlet for years, quietly knowing there was something within me worth exploring. But, as life often does, life happened.

Fast-forward nearly thirty years. I began experimenting with digital art, and soon after enrolled in an art class in Las Vegas, I painted my very first oil landscape. Surrounded by veteran artist, I was surprised when the instructor stopped, studied my work, and said “This is really good.” When I told her it was my first painting, she was genuinely taken aback and encourage me to keep practicing that was my second vindication-another gentle nudge reminding me that art had always been waiting for me.

Life stepped in once again-marriage, responsibilities, time passing-until a shoulder injury forced me to slow down. During recovery, my best friend suggested I turn an upstairs room into an art studio, That, moment changed everything. I picked up my paintbrush and haven’t put it down since. That was two to three years ago.

Since then, my artistic journey has grown rapidly, I’ve participated in multiple exhibitions, been featured in publications, and continue to expand my education by studying art and art history through an online course taught by two Italian instructors, I believe deeply in lifelong learning and in continually refining my craft.

Abstract art is my foundation-my first love. It is where emotion, movement, and intuition lead the way, Recently, I’ve felt drawn toward landscapes and abstract landscapes, exploring realism while still honoring my expressive roots. No matter where my work takes me water and oceanic themes consistently recur in my work, reflecting a lasting connection to fluidity, motion, and natural rhythm.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Its’s been slow and steady- don’t rush that gets you nowhere. Social medial is tough trying to find my peeps but I don’t put all my eggs in one basket.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I create acrylic abstract art, often incorporating water-inspired themes. I take pride in my versatility and refuse to confine myself to a single style or subject matter. What sets my work apart is its depth, emotion, and intensity-each piece carries a sense of unpredictability, inviting the viewer into a unique experience. My art is an extension of my personality: expressive, diverse, and genuine. Above all, I am most proud to remain true to my authentic self and deeply grateful for the God-given talent that allows me to express my creativity in this way. I consider myself truly blessed.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
To stay true to myself and don’t listen to the naysayers, I’ve learned to trust my instincts-they have never led me astray. What may begin as uncertainty or even an ugly painting often transforms into something meaningful and beautiful when I allow the process to unfold.
