Today we’d like to introduce you to Deon Abdullah.
Hi Deon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story is rooted in purpose, resilience, and a deep commitment to serving my community. I began my journey in the wellness space as a massage therapist because I recognized the power of healing through touch. Very early on, I realized that massage therapy wasn’t just about relieving physical tension, it
was about restoring balance, confidence, and well-being in people’s lives.
As I dedicated myself to mastering my craft, my work eventually gained international recognition, which was an incredible honor. But beyond the awards, what truly drives me is the impact I’m able to make in the lives of others. Seeing someone walk in stressed, in pain, or overwhelmed and leave feeling renewed reminds me why I started this work in the first place.
Over time, my vision expanded beyond massage therapy. I stepped further into the health and wellness space through fitness, community engagement, and creating experiences that bring people together. Whether I’m leading a class, hosting wellness events, or partnering with organizations, my mission has remained the same, to create spaces where people feel empowered, supported, and inspired to take care of themselves.
Today, I continue building that vision by combining wellness, movement, and community. My goal is not only to help people heal, but to inspire them to live healthier, more confident lives. Everything I do is rooted in the belief that when people feel good in their bodies and minds, they show up more powerfully in every area of their lives, and that’s the kind of transformation I’m passionate about being part of.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most meaningful journeys, it’s come with its share of challenges, lessons, and moments that tested my resilience. There were times when resources were limited, when I had to juggle multiple responsibilities, and when the vision I had for my work felt bigger than the support around me at the time. Building something that serves and uplifts the community requires persistence, faith, and a willingness to keep going even when things feel uncertain.
There were moments of doubt, long days, and obstacles that forced me to grow both personally and professionally. But every struggle helped sharpen my purpose. Those experiences taught me discipline, patience, and the importance of staying connected to why I started in the first place.
Looking back, the road may not have been smooth, but it’s been meaningful. Every challenge helped shape the mission, strengthened my voice, and deepened my commitment to creating spaces where people can move, heal, and feel empowered
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My journey in movement and wellness started early. As a kid, I trained in tap dance at Northwest Tap Connection, where I learned discipline, rhythm, and the power of expression through movement. That experience planted the seed for a lifelong passion for using movement to bring people together and help people feel confident in their bodies.
Today, I’m an international award winning massage therapist, fitness instructor, and community builder. I specialize in therapeutic massage, recovery, and creating high energy fitness experiences that feel more like a celebration than a workout. I’m also a certified MixxedFit instructor, where I lead dance based HIIT classes that bring that same joy and rhythm I discovered as a kid into the fitness space.
One of the things I’m most proud of is building community through movement. I run Lions Club Fitness, what we call “The Lion’s Den” where people come not just to work out, but to feel supported, empowered, and part of something bigger. My focus is accessible fitness and wellness, creating spaces where everyone feels welcome regardless of where they are in their journey.
What sets me apart is that I blend multiple worlds, therapeutic healing through massage, high energy dance fitness, and community leadership. Whether someone is coming to me for recovery, movement, or motivation, my goal is always the same, to help people reconnect with their bodies, build confidence, and leave feeling stronger than when they walked in.
At the end of the day, what I’m most proud of isn’t just the work I do, it’s the impact. Seeing people transform, build confidence, and find joy in movement is what keeps me going.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk-taking has been a big part of my journey, even when it didn’t feel like a “risk” at the time, it just felt like following a calling.
One of the biggest risks I took was betting on myself and stepping fully into the wellness and movement space. I’ve always loved dance and movement since I was a kid tap dancing at Northwest Tap Connection, but turning that passion into a career meant stepping into the unknown. There’s no guaranteed path when you’re building something rooted in community, culture, and healing.
Starting and building community centered spaces like Lions Club was another leap of faith. I wanted to create something bigger than just workouts a place where people could feel seen, empowered, and connected. That meant taking risks with time, finances, and energy, trusting that the vision would resonate with people.
Becoming an instructor in programs like MixxedFit was also a risk in its own way. It pushed me to show up boldly, lead from the front, and fully embody the joy and confidence that movement brings. When you lead spaces like that, you’re not just teaching choreography you’re holding energy, building culture, and creating a safe place for people to be themselves.
My perspective on risk is that growth rarely happens inside comfort zones. Risk doesn’t always mean something dramatic it can simply mean choosing courage over fear. For me, risk taking has looked like saying yes to opportunities before I felt 100% ready, trusting my voice, and building things that didn’t exist yet.
What I’ve learned is that when your purpose is rooted in service and community, the risks feel worth it. Even if things don’t go exactly as planned, every step teaches you something and moves you closer to the impact you’re meant to make.
