Life & Work with Del Kary of Yakima, Wa.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Del Kary.

Hi Del, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Director, Producer, Writer, and Actor based in Yakima, Wa. I directed my first film, titled “Video Psycho”, back in 1997. Since then, I have been involved in the production of several other films and shorts, either as a Director or Producer or Actor, including “Snuff Perversions : Bizzare Cases Of Death” (1999), “Cheater. Cheater” (2024), “If We Are Caught” (2024), “Longshot Danny” (2026), “Incipient” (2026) and a new psychological thriller titled “Psychosis” which will be released in 2027.
And now, I’m adding television to my resume by directing and acting in a series titled “Jackson Horn” which will premiere in the fall of 2026 on the FOX television network.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a smooth road. I stepped away from the entertainment industry to take care of my mother, who was suffering with dementia, for many years. When she passed, I decided to try and step back into the world of filmmaking. It was like starting all over again from the bottom.
Hearing ‘no’ and ‘you’re past your prime’ many times has given me the drive to push even harder to show that I still have a lot of interesting stories to tell.
The struggles in this industry are never ending… but that’s part of the fun.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Making movies has always been a passion of mine from a very young age. From my very first camcorder, I was filming anyone and anything that moved.
Directing is my main passion. I love taking the written word and visualizing it up on the big screen.
I’ve also discovered my love for editing. Which is now becoming my second favorite part of movie making.
I’m proud of all the films I’ve directed and produced, especially the next few that will be released within the next couple of years.
I think what sets me apart as a director, is taking on many different types of film and not sticking to one genre. I started with horror films, and now have moved on to also tackling action and drama. I’m open to almost anything as long as the story is great!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t give up. You’ll hear many more ‘no’ than ‘yes’ in this field of work. Take any type of job you’re offered, even if it’s not exactly what you want to do, just to get more experience and your foot in the door.
In the entertainment business it’s a lot of ‘who you know’ and difficult to get your movie out there, but it is achievable if you remain determined and don’t listen to the detractors. Don’t give up.
