Hi Oxana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my career in 2011 studying makeup, and soon realized the importance of creating complete looks, which led me to train in hairstyling as well. One of my first major opportunities was working at MAC Cosmetics, where I gained valuable experience and worked on fashion shows before joining one of Moscow’s top beauty salons. At the same time, I dedicated myself to creative photoshoots to build my portfolio and connect with photographers, which eventually opened doors to working with local celebrities. A major turning point in my career was collaborating with Sasha Spilberg on her music video shoot in France, after which I became her personal makeup artist. This experience helped me open my own beauty studio in Moscow, where I worked with clients and taught makeup and hairstyling. Now, with 15 years of experience, after moving back to the United States, I continue my career working with brides through wedding agencies, collaborating on commercial photo and video shoots, and offering makeup and hairstyling lessons, while constantly continuing my education to stay current with new techniques and trends. For larger weddings, I’m also fortunate to work alongside a small team of talented assistants who help ensure everything runs smoothly for our clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. Like any career, it came with challenges, especially in the beginning when I had less experience and worked under pressure with celebrities, photoshoots, and tight timelines. I often felt the need to keep improving my skills, speed, and confidence. Public speaking and teaching master classes also made me very nervous at first. But over the years, experience helped me grow stronger in my techniques, timing, and confidence, allowing me to truly enjoy both creating beauty and educating others.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that patience and hard work really matter. The beauty industry can look very glamorous from the outside, but professionalism, kindness, and providing a good experience for clients are just as important as technical skills. Building trust with people and creating a positive experience can make a huge difference over time.
It’s also important to keep learning and practicing, no matter what stage you’re at in your career. Growth takes time, and confidence comes with experience. There may be moments of self-doubt or burnout, especially in the beginning, but those challenges are part of the process. Taking breaks when needed, staying consistent, and focusing on personal growth instead of comparing yourself to others can help make the journey much healthier and more rewarding.
