Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Taladay.
Hi Alexis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My husband and I have both worked in the restaurant industry for more than twenty five years each. We have extensive experience in all of the roles in the front of the house, in all different environments. We moved to Tacoma with the intention of opening our own restaurant, but got delayed by Covid. In 2023 while looking for the right space, we found out one of our favorite local spots was for sale. We took over ownership of En Rama in early 2024, and have have been running it ever since.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth! The restaurant’s original owner also owned the building, and had hired someone else to be the face of it. When he left, the place lacked leadership and struggled. As long time industry workers, we wanted the takeover to be as seamless as possible, and for no one to miss any shifts. In retrospect, we should have closed down for at least a week and streamlined operations. Getting everything changed over so quickly after our liquor license came through was tough, and we did miss a few things. Mainly getting all of the google accounts into our names. Which if you have ever tried to get anywhere with google, you know can take an eternity! We fought tirelessly to get everything sorted, and am happy to say that after more than a year, finally got control of our business google account. Lessons learned!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a cozy restaurant in the historic Courthouse Square building in downtown Tacoma. Our name is derived form the Spanish wine term “en rama” which translates to “raw” or “unfiltered” and inspires our focus on artisanal, locally sourced food, curated wine list, and craft cocktails. We like to think of ourselves as casual and approachable fine dining. The stars of our menu are our housemate pastas, and fresh baked focaccia bread. We focus on inclusivity and our goal is to make everyone feel at home and taken care of.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is when we see our guests smiling and happy. If we can make your day a little easier, and little brighter, then we have succeeded!
