Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Equihua.
Hi Karina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
About four years ago, I decided to become a Notary Public as a way to earn some extra income on the side. At the time, I never imagined it would grow into a business.
I was born and raised in the Yakima Valley, an agricultural community with a large Hispanic population. Growing up in a first-generation immigrant household, I watched my parents, family members, and others in our community navigate important paperwork with uncertainty. Language barriers, unfamiliar processes, and not knowing where to turn often made even simple tasks feel overwhelming. Those experiences showed me the value of having someone who communicates clearly, earns your trust, and helps make the process less intimidating.
When I became a Notary Public, I started seeing those same experiences reflected in my clients. While they came to me for a notarization, many also needed help beyond that—whether it was document preparation, bilingual services, employment-related questions, or simply knowing where to turn next. I always stay within the scope of the services I’m legally authorized to provide, but those conversations made me realize there was a much greater need than I had originally anticipated.
That’s how Yakima Valley Signature Solutions evolved. What started as a side hustle has grown into a business dedicated to helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate life’s important documents and milestones with confidence through notary services, bilingual document services, and HR and business support services. My goal has always been to provide more than a service—I want every client to feel heard, respected, and confident throughout the process. Being born and raised in the Yakima Valley makes this work especially meaningful because I have the privilege of serving the same community that helped shape who I am.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many small business owners, I started with no client base and had to build everything from the ground up. One of my biggest challenges has been getting my name out there and earning the trust of people who had never heard of me before.
Beyond the business side, I’ve also had to overcome a lot of self-doubt. There were moments when I questioned whether I was capable of building something successful or if I should just play it safe. Starting and growing a business while working a full-time HR career has been both rewarding and exhausting, and there have been plenty of days where finding the time and energy felt like its own challenge.
Over time, I’ve realized that confidence doesn’t come before taking action—it comes from continuing to show up, building relationships, and learning from every experience. Every client, every referral, and every small milestone has reinforced why I started this journey. Those experiences have helped me grow not only as a business owner, but as a person.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Yakima Valley Signature Solutions was built on the belief that document services should be professional, approachable, and centered around people—not just paperwork. While we’re best known for mobile notary and loan signing services, we’ve grown into a trusted resource for individuals, families, and businesses who need reliable assistance with life’s important documents and administrative needs.
We offer mobile notary and loan signing services, bilingual document services, document preparation, and HR and business support services. Whether someone is purchasing a home, planning their estate, starting a business, or simply needs guidance with important paperwork, my goal is to make the process as seamless, personalized, and stress-free as possible while staying within the scope of the services I’m authorized to provide.
What sets my business apart is the experience. I believe choosing a professional isn’t just about finding someone qualified—it’s about finding someone you trust, feel comfortable with, and know will genuinely care about your experience. I take pride in being detail-oriented, dependable, and approachable. Being bilingual in English and Spanish also allows me to better serve many individuals, families, and businesses throughout our community while helping bridge communication barriers when appropriate.
For me, it’s always been about relationships over transactions. I want every client to feel heard, respected, and confident from start to finish. Whether it’s a single notarization or coordinating multiple services, I strive to provide an elevated, personalized experience that gives people peace of mind. That’s the reputation I’m most proud of building, and it’s the standard I bring to every appointment.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I was born and raised in Sunnyside, and Yakima has been my home for over a decade. I love the sense of community here and the relationships you can build. We’re lucky to be surrounded by beautiful scenery, from the Yakima Canyon to the vineyards, orchards, and farmland that make the Valley so unique. I love the sense of community here and the relationships you can build. Like any community, we have our challenges, but I love seeing our community support local businesses.
