Check Out Anthony Singleton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Singleton.

Hi Anthony, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2020 I got covid and was in the hospital for 8 days. Needless to say I had a lot of time to think about my life and what I wanted out of it. After some reflection I realized that I wasn’t living the life that I had dreamed of as a kid. I made up my mind that I wanted to be a comedian. When I got out the hospital I started attending open mics at the Spokane Comedy Club. I found a real passion for making people laugh. At the same time. I understood that in order to become a great comic I needed more time. So I started an open mic at Skippers Seafood restaurant. Over time I developed the skills I needed to start putting on my own shows. I started my own business and after 4 years of working my tail off. I won comedian of the year in spokane.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a comic is hard enough when no one wants to see you, but starting a business at the same time was hard. Rejection is the name of the game. Being told your not good enough or being rejected in the same space your best friends are thriving in is hard.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work as a full-time social worker helping people that are incarcerated or formally incarcerated. My other job is a stand up comic and booker. The thing that makes me different is that in spite of nothing I succeed. I also help my friends realize their dreams and my family is involved with every aspect of my comedy business.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I think that my whole family deserves the credit. They have never questioned my journey. They’ve always been there when I was at my lowest.
