Meet Alex Larios of Elite Boxing/Colibri Mexican Kitchen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Larios.

Alex, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Guadalajara and moved to Seattle with very little. Like a lot of kids from immigrant families, I grew up watching the people around me work nonstop just to create stability and opportunity for the next generation. My family sacrificed everything to build a life here, and I’ll always carry that with me.
But even at a young age, I felt different. I respected the traditional path, but deep down I knew I wanted to build something bigger. I always had this feeling that my life was supposed to mean more than just surviving or settling into a routine. I wanted to create something impactful, something that could change not only my life, but the lives of the people around me.
I think I almost conditioned myself to believe it was possible before there was any proof. While most people were afraid to take risks, I became obsessed with the idea that hard work, discipline, and belief could completely change a person’s future. That mindset pushed me to take chances others avoided, dream bigger than my circumstances, and keep going even when nothing was guaranteed.
Everything I do now, from coaching and building businesses to helping my community, comes from that same mentality. I never wanted an ordinary life. I wanted to prove that a kid who came from humble beginnings could create something meaningful through vision, sacrifice, and relentless effort.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a long and difficult road, but I think what made the difference was that I always knew I couldn’t live an ordinary life. I couldn’t see myself just clocking into work every day and following the same routine forever. I wanted something different for myself, and that vision is what kept me going when things got hard.

A lot of people thought I was crazy in the beginning. I had huge dreams with very little proof that any of it would work. But over time, I think I showed people that if you truly believe in something and are willing to sacrifice for it, you can accomplish things most people think are impossible.

For me, it was all or nothing. Because of that, I was never afraid to take risks. I knew the path I wanted wouldn’t come from playing it safe.

Opening my first physical location was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I didn’t have much money, and a lot of people in the business world didn’t believe a young kid from Mexico with no track record could actually build something successful. Many people didn’t want to take a chance on me, so I had to fight through a lot of rejection and adversity.

In the beginning, the business barely made money. To survive, I worked a regular job while trying to build the business at the same time. That meant long days, exhaustion, and sacrificing time with family and friends. There were moments where it felt overwhelming, but I kept reminding myself why I started in the first place.

I believed that if I stayed disciplined and kept pushing forward, eventually all the sacrifices would mean something. Looking back now, I think that belief carried me through the hardest moments more than anything else.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Elite Boxing/Colibri Mexican Kitchen ?
Today, I own a boxing gym, a restaurant, and an Airbnb property. More than anything, I take pride in discipline, making the right choices, and helping people whenever I can.

The boxing gym means a lot to me because I see myself in many of the kids who walk through the doors. A lot of them are just like I was, kids that people overlooked, underestimated, or didn’t fully believe in. I understand that feeling deeply, which is why I try to give them the encouragement and guidance I wish more people gave me growing up.

One thing the world does very well is telling people what they can’t do. Especially when you come from humble beginnings, people are quick to place limits on your future. That’s why I’ve always tried to be the person who tells others that they can.

I want the kids in my gym to understand that their circumstances do not define them. With discipline, sacrifice, and belief in themselves, they can build a completely different future. Boxing teaches much more than how to fight. It teaches confidence, responsibility, resilience, and self-respect. Watching young people grow into stronger and more disciplined individuals is one of the most rewarding parts of everything I’ve built.

At the end of the day, success for me is not just about business. It’s about creating opportunities, inspiring others to dream bigger, and proving that where you start in life does not determine where you can end up.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
One of my favorite books is Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. It’s essentially the personal journal of one of the greatest Roman emperors, and I think it teaches a lot about emotional control, discipline, and mindset. One of the biggest lessons I took from it is learning how to stay balanced, not getting too high during the good moments and not falling apart during the difficult ones. That stoic mentality has influenced the way I approach both business and life.

I also enjoy reading about historical warriors and leaders like Alexander the Great. I’m fascinated by the mindset, discipline, and belief they had in themselves long before they achieved greatness. I try to study the qualities that made people like that successful and apply those lessons to my own life.

To me, a lot of success starts with mindset. I think you have to program yourself to truly believe something is achievable before you can even attempt it. Most people fail before they start because they convince themselves something is impossible. I’ve always believed that if you can train your mind to think bigger and stay disciplined through adversity, you can accomplish far more than most people expect.
