Today we’d like to introduce you to Mo Tsimouris.
Hi Mo , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got my start working in my family’s business that was on the decline and my father and I changed the concept and built what became Bellingham Bar and Grill today. We’re a great team and work well together because he takes care of the back of house operations and I run all other aspects of the business including front of house and day to day ops.
In 2023 I purchased my second business (Bellingham Axe) from the founder. Similar to what I was able to do at Bellingham Bar and Grill I made improvements including adding a projected target system with 20+ games and automatic scoring that was a game changer for the overall experience.
Since I was a child I’ve always wanted to be a businessman but more specifically an operator; although I didn’t know then how that would materialize, I was extremely determined and driven to succeed. Even now at 38 I haven’t slowed down and am always on the look out for business number 3.
The mantra that I live by is “I get to do this”. I tell myself that repeatedly whenever I face a challenge or hardship. It helps me focus and push through the difficult times they are inevitable in business and in life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never a smooth road and it if is you probably haven’t been in business long enough.
There have been many challenges for me, the greatest which has been the forced closures and limited service during the reopening period of the COVID pandemic 2020-2021. My state had some of the strictest restrictions in the county and it made operating difficult and almost not worth it for those 18 months.
Second to that would be the ongoing issue of open air drug use and general lawlessness (graffiti, vandalism, theft, etc.) that has plagued the downtown area or my city for years,
The smaller issues such as staffing, supply shortages and higher operating costs are just part of the deal and a good operator here creative in finding solutions to these and similar problems.
