Community Highlights: Meet Thomas Bacon of Bacon Painting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Bacon.

Hi Thomas, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Wisconsin, and moved to Portland, Oregon in my 20s falling in love with the PNW. I returned home for a time, and discovered painting and learning what running a business entailed. I realized I could make money by myself and for myself, while honing my craft and skills.

There is something beautiful about old houses. It is my passion to breathe life back into them, pulling out the character and detail to restore their former beauty.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is never a smooth road. I’ve had to learn what to do and what not to do. I had a network in Madison, WI so there was a steady stream of referrals. I was a bigger fish in a smaller pond there. Seattle is a much larger city and establishing myself and my reputation here has probably been the hardest part. When I recently rebranded and launched a website, I invested in a logo and a uniform of sorts that I love to wear around town. Being from the Midwest, I have the gift of gab and enjoy the interactions with folks that come with that.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Bacon Painting ?
I specialize in interior and exterior, commercial and residential painting. I also have experience and enjoy working with real estate agents prior to sale listings.

Born and raised in Wisconsin, I grew up surrounded by hard work, honesty, and a strong sense of community. I bring a Midwestern work ethic and pride in doing a job right to every project. This is not to say I don’t have great respect for local Seattle business and the work ethic here, but Wisconsin does have better ice cream.

Whether painting a cozy neighborhood home or a small business storefront, my goal is simply to bring lasting quality, friendly service, and a touch of pride to every project, because that’s what good neighbors do.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Oh yes, I have had mentors who have taught me so much. I would not be where I am without having worked with good painters both back in Wisconsin and here in Seattle – where I’ve leveled up immensely.
