Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Li.
kelly, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Beginning: good mornings, always
It all started with a pen and a page. The original morning journal, good mornings, always, was the laboratory where the concept was born. It was about the simple, consistent act of documenting the start of the day—creating a record of presence before the world’s demands took over.
The Pivot: self mornings
As the practice evolved, the focus sharpened. The transition to self mornings signaled a move toward radical personal responsibility. The shift from “Good” to “self” highlighted that the most important relationship to cultivate in those early hours is the one you have with yourself. It became less about the quality of the morning and more about the subject of the morning.
The Expansion: Mind and Body
The story reached its current chapter when the boundaries of the journal were broken. You recognized that a clear mind can only go so far if the body is neglected, and vice versa.
The Mind: Retaining the reflective, intentional roots of the original journal.
The Body: Incorporating physical awareness—movement, nourishment, and energy—to create a complete loop of self-care.
Today
self mornings has grown from a private ritual into a comprehensive philosophy. It’s now about a unified start—ensuring that the mind and body are synchronized and energized before the day truly begins. It’s no longer just about what you write; it’s about how you exist in those first few hours.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road—it’s been a series of honest, sometimes difficult pivots.
It started with good mornings, always, a simple journal focused on the mind. But the reality is, you can’t just write your way into a better life if your body is exhausted. The road got rocky when you realized that mental clarity and physical health are inseparable.
The Pivot to self mornings
The jump to self mornings was an identity shift. It meant moving away from just “having a good morning” to taking real ownership of your self.
The Struggles
The Identity Crisis: Letting go of the original “journal” brand was scary. It felt like walking away from your foundation to build something more complex.
The Integration: Bringing the Body into the mix wasn’t just a business move; it was a response to burnout. Figuring out how to balance movement with reflection without it feeling like another chore was a massive hurdle.
Today, self mornings is the result of those bumps. It’s a lowercase, grounded reminder that starting your day right requires both your mind and your body to be in the same room. It wasn’t a straight line, but the pivots are what made it real.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At self mornings, the work is about protecting the first hours of the day from a world that is far too loud. I specialize in building integrated morning practices—the essential structure needed to connect your internal quiet with your external focus.
What I Do & Specialize In
I bridge the gap between mental clarity and physical energy. My work focuses on two pillars:
The Mind: Using breathwork, meditation, and guided journaling to clear the noise and make room for logic and creativity.
The Body: Creating movement routines—strength, mobility, and yoga—designed to wake up the physical self without overstimulation.
What I Am Known For
I’m known for an intentional, lowercase philosophy. In a space often crowded with rigid “life hacks” and 15-step checklists, self mornings is known for being a grounded invitation. I don’t provide rules; I provide the tools for you to check in with yourself before the day takes over.
What Sets Me Apart
What sets this practice apart is the Mind/Body Loop. Most spaces demand you choose: you’re either “working out” or “meditating.” I believe they must move together. My tools, like the Expression Deck and our movement guides, are designed specifically to turn morning stillness into a clear, actionable path for your daily work.
What I Am Most Proud Of
I’m most proud of the pivots. The brand started as a simple journal called good mornings, always, but it had the courage to grow when I realized that mental focus alone wasn’t the full story. I’m proud that self mornings is an honest reflection of that evolution—moving from just “writing things down” to building a complete system that helps people align their physical energy with their mental goals.
