Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Furgason.
Hi Tamara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Everlasting Candle Co. began during a very formative season of our lives. My husband Jesse and I had just welcomed our first child, and we were thinking deeply about the kind of life and work we wanted to build together. We loved the warmth candlelight brings into a home, but we were also drawn to the idea of creating something meaningful of our own as a small family business.
We launched without outside funding, learning everything as we went while raising young children. Growth came organically, one step at a time, shaped by the realities of family life and the values we cared about most. As the brand evolved, so did we, stretching ourselves, learning new skills, and staying committed to building something we were proud of.
Today, Everlasting Candle Co. is a family run brand with customers and retail partners across North America, Australia, and New Zealand. While our reach has grown, the heart of the business remains the same. We continue to build with intention, prioritizing thoughtful design, an eco conscious approach, and purpose, while creating products that feel meaningful in people’s homes
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it has been a meaningful one.
The biggest struggle wasn’t the product itself. It was building a business from the ground up while wearing every single hat, often all in the same day. When you bootstrap a company, there’s no separation between founder, marketer, customer service, operations, logistics, and problem solver. You’re learning everything in real time, usually while trying to keep life and family moving at the same pace.
There were many moments where I felt like I hit a knowledge ceiling. You figure something out, grow a little, and suddenly realize you’re facing an entirely new level of learning. Instead of stopping, you have to stretch again. That cycle repeats constantly. It can be exhausting, especially when you don’t yet have a team to lean on.
Balancing motherhood alongside entrepreneurship added another layer. Building something meaningful while raising young children forces you to become incredibly intentional with your time and energy. Some days felt empowering. Other days felt overwhelming. But looking back, those seasons shaped how we built this brand. Slower. More thoughtfully. With heart at the center.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Everlasting Candle Co?
Everlasting Candle Co. was built from a very personal place. My husband and I loved the feeling candlelight brings into a home, but we wanted something cleaner, longer lasting, and more intentional. From that came a patented steel candle that never melts and can be reused again and again with clean burning, scent free Pristine Oil®.
What sets us apart is that our product isn’t meant to be disposable. It’s designed to become part of your home. Something you reach for during everyday moments, dinners with friends, quiet nights, or rituals that matter to you. It lives somewhere between function and decor, and that balance is very intentional.
What I’m most proud of is how our candles are made. Every Everlasting Candle is handcrafted in Canada through the Canadian Disability Association of Canada. That partnership means everything to us. Knowing that each piece supports meaningful employment and carries real human care makes the product feel alive in a way that mass produced items never can.
As a brand, we care deeply about creating pieces that feel warm, thoughtful, and lasting. We’ve grown without rushing, choosing to protect our values as much as our designs. I want readers to know that this brand was built with intention at every stage, and that intention carries through into the homes our candles live in.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t think of luck as something that drives the business, but I do think timing and openness matter.
There have been moments where opportunities appeared at just the right time, often after long periods of uncertainty or quiet work behind the scenes. Those moments can feel like luck from the outside, but they usually came after a lot of learning, persistence, and staying committed even when the path forward wasn’t clear.
There have also been challenges and setbacks that, at the time, felt like bad luck. Delays, missteps, and moments where things didn’t go as planned. Looking back, many of those experiences slowed us down in ways that were ultimately helpful. They gave us space to make better decisions, protect what we were building, and grow in the right direction.
Over time, I’ve learned to trust that building something with care and intention creates its own momentum. When you stay aligned with your values and keep moving forward, the right opportunities tend to meet you when you’re ready for them.
