Today we’d like to introduce you to John Platt.
Hi John, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story is long and winding, with several detours and diversions along the way. But looking back, I see that my path was always there. I was destined to communicate about environmental issues, especially endangered species. I’ve devoted the past 20-plus years to that, including the past nine years at the helm of The Revelator, a great environmental news site published by the Center for Biological Diversity.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh no, it was far from smooth — although every bump in the road informed my journey as it evolved. As the old saying goes, “all noise is signal” — you just need to listen to what your experiences tell you. (More specifically, the struggles were the ones we all deal with: health, money, isolation, betrayal, death, taxes, floods, unintended career shifts, loss… you know, life!)
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We’re an environmental news and commentary site that focuses mostly on endangered species, climate change, and environmental justice. We do a lot with a small team! Most of what we publish is original — you won’t find these stories anywhere else. We love to dive into how these issues affect us on a personal and cultural level. We’re rocketing toward our 10th anniversary in May 2027, and we look forward to helping our readers make a difference.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Don’t worry about what other people *might* think — trust your instinct and experience and do what you know in your heart is best.
